2018 TripWe had 52 signed up for our 3rd bus trip to Las Vegas. We had one person that was unable to get to the drop-off on time and drove to Las Vegas to join the group to enjoy the newly remodeled rooms at the Cal and enjoy the wonderful "free" meals available through the Aloha Package.
Thanks to everyone for being prompt on keeping to the departure schedules during the weekend. We were able to leave Pasadena on Friday morning a few minutes before the scheduled 8:30 departure and arrived at the ESGVJCC around 8:55. So with a short delay in ESGVJCC the bus left for Las Vegas around 9:30 instead of 9:15. There was a short stop in Barstow and we arrived in Las Vegas at exactly 2:30. Since we arrive earlier than the check-in time (3:00) and the fact that the I-15 traffic is bad with the freeway construction our driver, JIM, opted to drive to the Cal via the Strip. So we got to see many of the newly constructed hotels and shops that line this very busy street. A couple of folks had to wait for their room keys, and many others had a problem with the keys to their room. But once we got past those "problems" most of us had a pretty good time. I understand there were a few "winners" in our group! The Las Vegas Sangha had reserved a very nice location for our group! So we were able to see the pre-dance shows and were close to the Craft Fair and food vendors. Jim was involved in an accident after dropping our group off and our bus was needed to be replaced. Luckily the group from Nishi used Nikkei Tours so the bus drivers worked for the same bus company and had arranged for the Nishi bus to take us from the Obon back to the Cal at 2:00....the bus driver then went back to pick up the Nishi group at 3:00 pm. Saturday night our driver, Jim, used the Nishi bus to get many of us to the Strip. There were quite a few that went back on Saturday night to go to the Strip....some went to see Terry Fator, Mystere and Stevie Wonder. By Sunday morning, the bus company had sent a new bus for us to take home. We were on the road by 10:30 and got to ESGVJCC just before 5:00 PM. There Thanks to everyone that brought snacks to share and also offered help and assistance to others.
